Great news: I’ve been granted a spot for a seminar paper at the British New Testament Society conference this year! It will be held in early September at the University of Exeter. (more…)
Bishop Tom Wright is receiving an honorary degree on June 23rd, as part of the 175th anniversary celebrations of Durham University. In this connection he has agreed to deliver a public lecture on June 20th at 7.30pm. His topic is: “God in Public? Faith and Truth in Church and University.” (I’ll see if I can get an audio recording of this and make it available online.)
On May 3rd I was treated to a wonderful evening in honor of Professor C.K. Barrett’s 90th birthday. The reception was a treat, as we browsed by and chatted with a number of great New Testament scholars, as well as a host of energetic and very promising postgraduate students. A highlight of the evening was the keynote paper by Professor Morna D. Hooker. Her text was 2 Corinthians 5:21. The title of her paper was, “On Being the Righteousness of God.” With her express permission, the audio of her lecture is available online here (password: letusin). (The file is unedited, so there may be some popping or silent spots, etc.) Following her presentation you will hear interactions from such people as C.K. Barrett, Walter Moberly, N.T. Wright, James Dunn and John Barclay.
Our girls are involved in various classes outside their normal school routine at home. Both Elizabeth and Katherine participate in ballet and gymnastics classes. They are involved with Durham Musical Theatre Company and are to perform in the musical, Gigi, in early June at the Gala Theatre (with musical tunes such as, “Thank Heaven for Little Girls” and “I Remember It Well”). The performances run at 7:15pm June 5th-9th, with a additional matinée performance at 2:15 pm on Saturday. For anyone in Durham who’d like to attend, tickets may be obtained at the Gala Theatre (box office tel: 0191.332.4041).
We’ve now used this site twice, and with great success: ePassportPhoto. Last year, when I needed to renew my student visa, I took digital photos of everyone in the family, cropped them, and used this site to create sheets of photos appropriate for a visa or passport application. I then took the files on my Sandisk miniCruzer to Boots, a common pharmacy here in the U.K. There I printed out the sheets on high quality photo paper for something like 20-pence a sheet (about 40-cents U.S). All went well. Now we’re about to go to London to register Roderick and obtain his first passport. I’m using ePassportPhoto again. Of great help is that their service (which is free!) can format your photos to U.K. or U.S. standards.
